08 Sep 2006 - Tactex Announces Addition to Patent Portfolio
Tactex has the touch!
Since its inception,Tactex has been designing and manufacturing touch pads for computer input devices and musical instruments.Tactex’s first commercial product, the award winning MTC Express, set the standard for multi-touch input.Musical instruments outfitted with Tactex touch pads have wonderful dynamic range—that is, the instrument can detect the speed with which the musician taps from the very lightest touch to the heaviest hit. Computer input devices outfitted with Tactex touch pads are capable of detected multiple simultaneous touches.
So it is with some satisfaction that Tactex announced it has been granted another patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Patent number 7,0077,009, entitled “Pressure Sensitive Surfaces” protects some of the technology that Tactex has developed over the years. Specifically, it relates to the way Tactex makes the membranes that cover the touch pads. Those membranes improve the sensitivity, provide a protective wear layer, and allow the touch pad to be configured as a number of individual sensing areas—like keys on a keyboard.
This patent adds to the foundation of intellectual property that Tactex has developed. At last count, Tactex had four patents and eight more patents pending in addition to the Canadian Space Agency patent that started it all. Tactex specializes in custom solutions for touch pads and tactile sensors. Call an application engineer today to discuss your unique requirements.
