22 Mar 2007 - Tactex Joins Continua Alliance
Tactex Controls Inc. joined an alliance of major healthcare and technology companies this month. The Continua Health Alliance brings together a group of leading players in the fields of personal tele-health and remote patient monitoring including corporations such as IBM, Intel, GE Healthcare, Cisco Systems and Motorola.
The alliance aims to set industry-wide connectivity standards based on evaluations of established technologies such as Bluetooth®, USB, Wi-Fi™, Z-Wave and ZigBee™. The end goal of the project will be to create a network of compatible devices for use in chronic disease management, elderly monitoring and proactive health and wellness. The Continua Alliance also plans on creating a consumer-recognizable certification logo for use on all interoperable devices.
Tactex sees the move as a major step towards positioning the company as a strategic player in the tele-health movement.
“By joining the alliance at this stage, Tactex gains early access to an initiative that will allow the company to develop products with longterm market viability,” says Tactex President and CEO David Lokhorst.
Tactex already has a history of creating quality products for the healthcare market. The Tactex BEDsensor Pro™ is a robust occupancy sensor that has been incorporated into wandering management and fall prevention at long-term care facilities in Canada, the UK and Australia. Tactex has also developed a line or products for use in sleep research and gait analysis.
